Wednesday Schools Closed in the Big Country Due to Black Ice
Big Country School Closings Update - Wednesday, January 28
As road conditions across the Big Country continue to shift, melting daytime moisture has refrozen overnight, creating widespread black ice that’s even more dangerous than earlier in the week. Law enforcement officials say roads may look clear, but remain extremely slick and unpredictable.

Because of these hazardous travel conditions, many school districts and colleges across West Central Texas have announced closures for Wednesday, January 28, to keep students, staff, and families safe.

Why This Matters
Even though sunshine has helped melt some ice during the day, nighttime refreezing has made early morning travel extremely dangerous. Bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads are especially risky.
Officials continue urging families to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, which also helps keep first responders available for true emergencies.
Stay tuned for further updates as districts continue monitoring conditions overnight and early Wednesday morning.
