In only their first year, the Abilene Flying Bison baseball team in Texas is the 2024 Mid-American League champions. But the news got even more exciting when the league announced that the playoff series would be held right here in Abilene.

The inaugural championship series will take place at Walt Driggers Field on August 13th and 14th the league announced in a press release.

According to the press release, commissioner Bill Davidson said, “We are very pleased to award the Flying Bison and the City of Abilene the opportunity to host the playoffs.  We’ve experienced a great first season and are looking forward to awarding the championship trophy in Abilene.”

General Manager John Stark was excited about the news saying, “We are extremely honored and excited to host these inaugural playoffs. It is a testament to the City of Abilene and the fans of the Abilene Flying Bison that we’ve been chosen. We look forward to sharing our elite brand of baseball with the rest of the Mid-America League,”

How cool is that to be in year one and be already league champions with a chance to win the whole enchilada? Not only that but bringing the playoffs to Abilene will bring in a bit more revenue for the Key City.

Playoffs In Abilene

The top 4 teams according to winning percentage will compete for the championship in a single-elimination competition.  The #1-seeded team will play the #4-seed, while #2 will face #3.  Both winning teams will then play one game with the winner being declared the Mid-America League Champion for 2024.

The semi-final round of games will be played on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, with the winning teams vying for the championship on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

All games will be played at Walt Driggers Field on the campus of McMurry University, the summer home of the Mid-America League’s Abilene Flying Bison.
