We all trust that when we bite into pre-packaged food, we won't come away with a cut, a chipped tooth, or choke on metal, right?

Unfortunately, manufacturing defects can and do sometimes happen to our food. A recent recall highlights this, as millions of boxes of granola bars could contain dangerous pieces of metal.

This is why the FDA is a critically important agency for public health.

The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices; and by ensuring the safety of our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.

Because of the FDA's mission, a recall on these granola bars has been raised to Level II, meaning that the product can cause medical problems for someone who consumes it.

The granola bars in question were manufactured by (the somewhat ironically named) Make Good brand between January 2024 and November 2024.

Granola bars have a long shelf life, so, affected boxes are likely still in pantries.

If you have a box of Made Good granola bars, I highly recommend you check your box against the FDA's recall list- as it covers many flavor varieties, Best By dates and UPC codes.

Luckily, no injuries have been reported from this recall, and if you do have a box of these bars you can return them for a full refund, or contact the company by calling  855-215-5695 between 8am and 5pm EST.

This recall was made voluntarily by the manufacturer and, "out of an abundance of caution and commitment to the well-being of our valued customers."

The source of the manufacturing defect has been addressed, so if you'd like a new box of these bars, they should be perfectly safe to eat.
