Arrington Lost Constituents in the Floods

At least 134 lives were lost in the devastating flooding, including 27 young girls and counselors at Camp Mystic in Kerr County. Among those tragically taken were several of Arrington’s own constituents—West Texans whose stories embody resilience, love, and service.

Arrington, who currently serves as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, said:

I rise today to honor the lives lost. This is an unimaginable and heartbreaking loss for these families and for our great state.

He went on to share the personal stories of four individuals from his district:

  • Tanya Burwick, a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother from San Angelo, worked at the Walmart Neighborhood Market for over a decade—always putting family first.

  • Holly Frizzell, who became a passionate dementia advocate after losing her husband of nearly 40 years, reflected “the very best of West Texas,” Arrington said.

  • Robert and Joni Brake, an Air Force veteran and a registered nurse, were enjoying the Fourth of July at a campground near Hunt, Texas, when they were overtaken by floodwaters. The couple leaves behind a legacy of service, three children, five grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

The Power of Prayer

Arrington urged his colleagues and Americans everywhere to lift these families up in prayer.

Texans are tough for a lot of reasons. But mostly because we believe in the power of prayer and God's sovereignty… We appeal to the Father of compassion and God of all comfort to do what only He can do—bring peace and strength in the midst of heartbreak.

He closed by asking the nation to join him in honoring the fallen, supporting the survivors, and holding on to hope.

May God bless our great country, may God comfort these families… and go West Texas.
