The travel plans of thousands at DFW Airport and Love Field were thrown into disarray due to a widespread equipment outage that spanned more than 20 US air traffic control centers. The outage affected approach systems, radar and radio transmissions.
Airport Traffic Nationwide Stalls Due to the Equipment Outage
According to The Daily Mail, airports nationwide were affected by the outage including Los Angeles (ZLA), Chicago (ZAU), Atlanta (ZTL), Houston (ZHU), Jacksonville (ZJX), Fort Worth (ZFW), Denver (ZDV), Miami (ZMA), Kansas City (ZKC), Memphis (ZME) Indianapolis (ZID), Albuquerque (ZAB), Minneapolis (ZMP), Salt Lake City (ZLC), Washington DC (ZDC), New York (ZNY), Cleveland (ZOB), Oakland (ZOA), Seattle (ZSE) and Boston (ZBW),Toronto (CYYZ), Montreal (CYUL) and Vancouver (CYVR).
The FAA is Investigating an Issue In Dallas
According to Fox 4 in Dallas, the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an issue at Dallas TRACON. Airport arrivals at DFW and Love Field are controlled by the Terminal Radar Approach Control facility. In a statement, the FAA said they were looking into a local telephone equipment issue to figure out what was causing the disruption.
DFW Airport and Love Field Modify Operations Due to the Ground Stop
DFW Airport and Love Field reverted to a 'one in, one out' rule, meaning only one plane could take off or land at a time. The ground stop was ordered at 1:30pm central time and was lifted at 3:30pm central time. The ground stop was replaced with a ground delay.
