Killeen, Texas is blessed to have so many outdoor spaces for families to enjoy our wonderful Central Texas weather, and of course nothing beats a good bar-b-que pit next to a shelter house full of picnic tables for everyone to gather. Unfortunately, last night, one such get together was taking place as a memorial gathering, and we nearly had to begin making plans to bury another.

According to this KCEN article, police were able to capture a suspect at Conder Community Park they say shot another attendee of the memorial. The shooting victim was life flighted to Baylor, Scott and White Hospital, and thankfully they are expected to recover.

Going into a holiday weekend without a loved one is already challenging enough, and then sadly the memorial being held was interrupted by a verbal confrontation that someone thought pulling out a gun would somehow solve. The Killeen Police Department had to quickly respond to the 911 call of shots fired at Conder park about 5:40 PM.

Killeen Police do believe they have the correct suspect in custody, and have told the community there does not appear to be any further or additional threat. As with any investigation, all information is welcome.
