The state of Texas and its power grid have had a troubled history. Many worry about how it will handle both very warm temperatures and the bitter cold. As the coldest months approach, many are now looking to the grid to hope it stands up.

Why Do Texans Worry About The Power Grid?

Promising News For The Texas Power Grid In Winter

Thankfully, per KXAN, the Texas Power Grid looks primed to take us through the cold months with little trouble. Texas Advanced Energy Business Alliance's Executive Director Matt Boms told KXAN:

“I think overall we’re looking really good … the stability of our grid has increased exponentially over the last four years, almost five years since Winter Storm Uri now."

The main change you ask involves ERCOT itself as said by Boms:

“The biggest change that we’ve seen in ERCOT...solar, wind and batteries have made up more than 90% of new generation since Winter Storm Uri, and that’s kept the grid reliable and it’s driven prices down.”

So, it looks like Texas will make it through the cold ok!
