HISTORY OF THE ALLSUP'S FRIED BURRITO

According to Allsup's website, the fried burrito was a happy accident.

It all started back in 1974 at an Allsup's in New Mexico. Baked burritos accidentally found their way into a doughnut fryer. The founder, Mr. Lonnie Allsup, noticed that customers loved the taste of the deep-fried burrito. With that, a legend was born and still lives strong to this day.

50 years later, the famous burrito is available at 441 Yesway and Allsub's stores. Believe it or not, the company sells 27 million burritos each year.

CLOSEST PLACE TO GET AN ALLSUP'S BURRITO FROM ODESSA

The Odessa-Midland area is overdue for an Allsup's in the area. Most locals will have to settle with traveling to enjoy the world-famous fried burritos.

For Odessa natives, the closest location to get an Allsup burrito is Crane, Andrews, or Big Spring.

Yesway convenience stores also carry the delicious burritos. A few years ago, Yesway bought Allsup's convenience stores and now carries the fried burritos in all its stores.

WILL ODESSA GET AN ALLSUP'S?

As I was scrolling through Facebook, I saw a post about an Allsup's or Yesway possibly coming to West Odessa.

The location will allegedly be off of I-20 and FM 866. The only other information offered is that it could open as soon as July 2025. I tried to find more information but could not find anything else. Hopefully, all of our Allsup's burrito dreams will come true soon!
