When it was first announced that the Regal Theater would shut down, I wasn't shocked but still sad. I'm a Dragon Ball fan and Regal was one of the few theaters that would show the anime movies. Besides being the spot for anime fans, Regal had become a part of Midland. It was originally opened in 1996 by Hollywood Theatres and then bought by Regal in 2013.

The old Regal location in Midland was bought by Cinergy in 2023. The entertainment group also purchased the Regal Cinemas location in Amarillo, Texas.

WHAT IS CINERGY'S NEXT MOVE?

According to MRT, Cinergy has a big makeover planned for the old Regal Theater.

Each movie theater room will be remodeled. All seating will be replaced and upgraded. With the new seats will come new projection and sound systems in each auditorium.

Some of the auditoriums will be transformed into rooms with exciting attractions. Midlanders can expect bowling lanes, escape rooms, arcade games, plus a bar and restaurant area.

Don't think the outside will be forgotten. Cinergy plans on dramatically changing the theater's exterior to show people what to expect on the inside.

If all those new features aren't enough, Cinergy is thinking about putting in a multi-level pro-style go-cart track.

Cinergy is working hard with city officials and Midland Development Corp. to get this project going. As of now, there is no set timeline for the redevelopment of the old Regal Theater.
