When Mark Adams was hired as the coach at Texas Tech his first call was to retain Coach Sean Sutton who may or may not have a new role on the new look Men's basketball coaching staff. Then Adams went and hired Portland State head coach Barrett Peery and Arkansas' lead recruiter Corey Williams.

On Monday, the Red Raiders announced the hiring of Memphis Strength and Conditioning coach to the same role at Texas Tech and today Mark Adams' fourth hire has been finalized with Talvin Hester pulling a quick shift at Colorado State before changing course to Lubbock to coach for Texas Tech.

Hester was most recently at Louisiana Tech for three seasons and has also spent time at Houston with Kelvin Sampson and at Oral Roberts, Texas State, SFA, San Jose State, Prairie View A&M, Texas College, Texas Wesleyan and North Lake College during his 20-year career.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to work at Texas Tech and to be back in the state of Texas," Hester told TexasTech.com. "I was raised here in Texas and most of my career being in the state. I'm one of the few coaches who have been at every Division I conference in the state. I'm excited to be back home and have the opportunity to win championships at the highest level in our sport."

Coach Adams liked the fact that Hester has recruited throughout the state of Texas and has helped teams to be successful at every stop he's been.

The main takeaway from the press release from Texas Tech is that this hire completes the staff. It was rumored last week that Darryl Dora was going to be returning to Texas Tech as an assistant but that does not seem to be the case.

That doesn't close the door on Dora returning to Texas Tech but it won't be as a full-time assistant. It would be under a title like "Player Development" or "special assistant to the Head Coach."
