Baseball is not often thought of as a dangerous game, and then you get stark reminders that the sport is nothing to be taken lightly. Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun got that reminder today when he wore a 95 mph fastball flush in the mouth.
Calhoun was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital where they did a CT scan to reveal the fractured jaw.
The Rangers made moves in the offseason to allow Calhoun to get a bigger role in the offense and in the field, now they'll need to figure out how to fill the roster while he takes time to heal his jaw. This was supposed to be Calhoun's breakout season, now he might not have an at-bat until July.
The Texas Rangers open their season in Seattle against the Mariners on March 26th.
