Close to the end of fall camp, the Red Raiders added a transfer from Texas A&M. Now, in week two of the season, the NCAA has announced that Tyree Wilson is eligible to play this season for Texas Tech.

Wilson announced the news on his own Twitter account.

Texas Tech confirmed the NCAA waiver granting the sophomore immediate eligibility this morning. Wilson will have three seasons of eligibility with Texas Tech and give the Red Raiders depth up front. With his size, 6-foot-6 280 pounds,  Wilson will be able to take reps at all three defensive line positions.

Wilson will join the defensive line unit on the field that features starters Eli Howard, Jaylon Hutchings, and Tony Bradford Jr. As well as Devin Drew, Nelson Mbanasor, Nick McCann, and Philip Blidi.

Last season in 12 games for the Aggies Wilson tallied 12 tackles as a redshirt freshman. He was credited with 3.0 tackles for a loss, including 1.5 sacks, while also adding a quarterback hurry as a reserve along the defensive line.

The Red Raiders had been planning for the likelihood of Wilson being declared eligible so it should not take long for him to make an impact on the defensive line rotation in Lubbock. Wilson will make his debut September 26th when Texas Tech opens Big 12 play against the Texas Longhorns. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. on FOX and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
