Armed Man Is Dead Following Domestic Violence Incident

DALHART, Texas (AP) — Police in the Texas Panhandle have fatally shot an armed man during a domestic violence call.  

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday said a Dalhart police officer suffered minor injuries in the incident involving a man with a knife.

DPS identified the man who died Monday night as 36-year-old Johnny Joseph Martinez of Dalhart.

Police responded to a domestic dispute and were confronted by Martinez. Investigators say an officer fatally shot Martinez during the altercation.

The officer was treated and released at a hospital. Further details on how the officer was hurt haven't been released.

Texas Rangers are helping investigate the incident.
