HOUSTON (AP) — A man wanted in a nearly 20-year-old cold-case killing has been captured in Mexico and extradited to Texas.

The Houston Police Department said Thursday that 47-year-old Pedro Maldonado was found by the U.S. Marshals and booked into the Harris County Jail in August. He is charged with murder in the slaying of 24-year-old Guadalupe Torres at their apartment in 1995.

Police say Maldonado was drinking outside when Torres came home. Witnesses later reported that they were arguing.

Her boyfriend later found her severely beaten, and she died the following day at an area hospital.

Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney or bond.
