DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas police officer fired in 2012 for allegedly lying about having his foot run over during a traffic stop must serve two years of probation.
The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/17jbMpq ) reports Eric Watts was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of making a false report. Watts must also surrender his peace officer's license.

Watts in 2011 answered a call about vehicles racing. Watts reported he got out of his patrol car when one of the suspect vehicles got caught in traffic, then claimed his foot was run over as the driver sped off.

Patrol car video did not show Watts coming in contact with the fleeing car.

The driver, Erick Castillo, was charged with evading arrest. He's completed probation in the case.
