Displaced Pets From Flood Being Cared For in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — About 100 pets displaced in recent Central Texas flooding are being cared for by the Austin Humane Society as recovery efforts continue.
The group has set up a Facebook site with photos of animals found and being looked after by the organization since last week's storms.

Austin Humane Society official Kelly Hanes on Monday said the complex remains closed to the public as staffers continue to support families and animals affected by flooding. Hanes says the group originally planned to reopen on Wednesday but that's been pushed back to Nov. 13 as efforts continue to reunite pets with people.

Hanes says most of the 100 or so rescued animals are dogs, along with a few cats and some bunnies.

Authorities say at least five people were killed in the flooding.
