Dustin R. Womble is a generous man. He gifted $10 million to help build the Womble practice facility that the men's and women's basketball programs are currently practicing in as they gear up for a brand new season starting next month.

That was nothing new from my perspective. When I was a senior in high school, Dusty and his wife Leisha invited my entire senior class to their house every Friday for lunch. Obviously, a multimillion-dollar donation is a step up from free lunch for 35 high school kids, but the generosity is just a part of Womble's character.

He doubled down on that generosity today with the announcement of a $20 million dollar gift that will help build a $40-50 million dollar football training facility set to begin construction at the beginning of next year. It's expected to open prior to the 2023 season.

You can see the broad plan for the two-story facility below in a truly incredible hype video that had me looking for a brick wall this afternoon.

The sports performance center that was recently built isn't going anywhere, but the current football facility located next to the sports performance center and directly south of the football stadium will be demolished and rebuilt into the Dustin R. Womble Football Center.

The $20 million dollar gift from Womble is the largest of its kind in the school's athletics department history.

"We are so thankful for the continued support and loyalty from the Womble family," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said on TexasTech.com. "Football is the lifeblood of our department, and we are going to continue to invest in our success and the success of our student-athletes. This project will immediately boost our football facilities and set the standard for what other universities can aspire to have."

The new Womble basketball facility has been praised as one of the best in the country and the Football facility will be no different.

"This project will drastically impact the future of Red Raider Football, providing our coaching staff the best resources to not only recruit potential student-athletes but to most importantly, train and develop the current members of our program," Womble told TexasTech.com. "My family and I are proud to invest in this project and continue the vision that Kirby and his team have developed for our athletics program."

The Womble 2 will feature a nearly 14,000-square foot weight room and have a recruiting area, massive locker rooms, coaching offices, meeting rooms, a theater for film and top-of-the-line nutrition, athletic training facilities and more. Hocutt joked in the press conference introducing the plan that he even told Tony Bradford they'd have space for a barbershop inside the facility.

I say "joked," but nothing is out of the realm of possibility in a facility like this. Both Clemson and LSU have places to cut athletes' hair at the football facility, and that's the type of program that Texas Tech aspires to be. Does a fresh haircut make you play better? Deion Sanders says it does, and it might. It certainly helps you in recruiting.

Womble mentioned several times in the press conference that the monetary gift wasn't about wins and losses, but more so his love of Texas Tech University. That's no doubt true, but this type of facility can easily translate into more wins than losses and will have an immediate impact on recruiting both high school athletes and transfers and also aid in the retention of players.

According to Texas Tech, the Womble Football Center is the second project in Texas Tech’s three-part master plan for its football program, which also includes future renovations to the south end zone of Jones AT&T Stadium. The projects are among the final items for The Campaign for Fearless Champions, which has transformed Texas Tech’s facilities since its inception.
