TYLER, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors say a longtime East Texas constable faces up to four years in federal prison for failing to file income tax returns and owing more than $160,000.

Smith County Precinct 1 Constable Henry Phillip Jackson pleaded guilty Tuesday in Tyler to four counts of willful failure to file income tax returns. The 65-year-old Jackson, who's from Tyler, remains free on bond pending sentencing.

Investigators say Jackson, who's been an elected constable since 1999, had income from 2010 through 2013 that required him to file federal income tax returns for those periods. Prosecutors say he did not.

Jackson didn't immediately return a message Wednesday.

An official with the U.S. Attorney's Office had no information Wednesday about Jackson's job status. Messages left for the Smith County judge weren't immediately returned.
