How to Fall in Love With Pizza Again At the San Angelo Rodeo
To experience the most from any food, grill it over wood. Oak, Pecan, Apple and Mesquite all have distinct flavors. It is a well known fact that to fully enjoy meat, you must grill it over wood. What is not as well known is, that wood fired ovens also work magic on pizza.
If you're at the rodeo this year, you can find wood fired pizza right on the midway. Look for Bada Bing Pizza. From the minute you approach you can smell the delicious wood fired aroma.
Debra Phillips of Bada Bing Pizza says wood fired pizza is the best in the world. "It originated in Italy. We do kinda the Neapolitan Pizza like they do in Italy. It's a thin crust and it cooks in 90 seconds in the oven, so it's quick. It takes us about 3 to 4 minutes from start at the beginning. We make everything fresh here, we make our own dough, sausage, sauces. So, it's really quick and it's really delicious" Debra says.
The lines at Bada Bing are consistently among the longest at the Rodeo. The opportunity to eat authentic pizza made completely from scratch is hard to resist. When you add the wood fired flavor, then that's where you get the "bada bing"
Debra Phillips and her husband, both from San Angelo, say the idea for Bada Bing started with a wood fired oven in their backyard. "We had a lot of fun with it and decided we might as well sell them, instead of giving them away all the time".
So, what are San Angelo's favorite pizza toppings? Debra says they're
Sausage, Pepperoni, Jalapeños and Mushrooms. They hand select the pepperoni and make their own sausage. Find Bada Bing Pizza on the midway at the Rodeo and on Facebook, just look for Bada Bing. Once you've tasted wood oven pizza, you will never look at pizza the same way again.
