As someone who has personally attended this sale for well over a decade, I can tell you this event is dangerous for anybody who loves books because it’s almost impossible to leave with just one.

Thousands Of Books And Hidden Treasures

The massive sale features thousands of donated books, children’s books, vinyl records, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, collectibles, coffee table books, and hard-to-find treasures.

One of the most popular areas every year is the children’s section, where parents and grandparents usually arrive early searching for affordable summer reading material.

Collectors also love the Antiques & Uniques section featuring rare and collectible finds.

Early Access Begins June 18

The sale kicks off Thursday evening, June 18, with a special Friends members preview sale from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Anyone wanting early access may purchase a Friends membership at the door before entering.

  • Friday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 21, the $6 Bag-O-Books Deal
  • The final day may offer the biggest bargain of the entire weekend.

On Sunday, June 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., shoppers can purchase a provided bag for $6 and fill it with as many books as possible.

And yes, longtime shoppers take this challenge very seriously.

Every Purchase Helps The Library

Proceeds from the event help benefit the Abilene Public Library through expanded programs, materials, equipment, staff training, and additional services for the community.

The Friends of the Abilene Public Library Book Sale has become a longtime tradition for many families across Abilene and the Big Country, and if you enjoy reading, treasure hunting, or simply finding a great deal, this is one event worth checking out.
