Angelo State University’s College of Business will host its inaugural Norris-ASU International Research Symposium on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.
The symposium will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is open free to the public.  Designed to highlight academic research with an international focus, the event will feature keynote speakers Dr. Detelin Elenkov, ASU’s Norris Family Chair in International Business, and Dr. Carlo Bagnoli, professor of business and economics at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, Italy.

In addition to the keynote speakers, academic researchers in various disciplines from ASU, Ca’ Foscari University and the University of Udine, Italy, will be on hand to discuss their research.  Each will make a 20-minute presentation that will be followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session.  Topics to be discussed include the European Union, Chinese literacy, Korean politics, international business, challenges of diversity and global community engagement, among others.

“For the past several years, ASU has achieved significant recognition in the area of international research,” Elenkov said.  “The symposium is a way to really highlight the achievements of various departments, colleges and individuals of ASU.”

Elenkov was named the 2012 Outstanding World Researcher by the International Association of Multidisciplinary Research, and is serving a two-year term as president of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies.  Bagnoli is co-editor in chief with Elenkov of the Journal of Strategic and International Studies, and chaired the 2013 International Academy for Advancement of Business and Research Summer Conference in Greece.  He will be recognized at the ASU symposium as the first Norris International Scholar.

The ASU symposium is funded by the Norris Family Endowment, which also established the Norris Family Chair in International Business in 2007 through a $1 million donation from the Lloyd Norris Family of San Angelo.  An endowed chair is the most prestigious academic appointment available for university faculty.
