EL PASO, Texas (AP) — The 131-year-old Texas boot-maker Lucchese (loo-KAY'-see) is kicking up its heels — literally.

El Paso-based Lucchese this year began expanding its high-end offerings. A fashion shoe line includes everything from sleek sling-backs to burnished oxfords.

William Zeitz helped shepherd the company though the change as executive vice president and creative director. He says it's really all about matching the desires and needs of Lucchese's customer base.

Zeitz told The Associated Press that the idea for the expansion came after longtime customers said they would be interested in offerings of more than just boots.

The company was founded in San Antonio in 1883 by Sam Lucchese, who came to America from Sicily. The company moved to El Paso in 1986.
