IRVING, Texas (AP) — Two Dallas-area police officers have been placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting a man in a hotel parking lot.

Police and a SWAT team surrounded the man at The Crossroads Hotel and Suites on Sunday after officers found his car and linked him to four felony warrants. Irving police spokesman James McLellan says the man got into a car after a nearly six-hour standoff and tried to flee.

McLellan says two officers feared for their lives and opened fire after the man rammed a tactical van.

It's unclear how many times they shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Police haven't released the man or the officers' names.
