HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A prison guard involved in a custody dispute has been charged with killing his son at a Central Texas home where the toddler's maternal grandmother was also found slain.
Walker County jail records show Howard Wayne Lewis was being held Thursday on a capital murder charge in the death of his 18-month-old son, Aiyden, who was strangled.

The beaten body of Shanta Crawford was also discovered at the Huntsville-area residence by her husband when he arrived home from work July 24.

Bond was set at $1 million for Lewis, who was arrested Wednesday. No attorney was listed for Lewis, who'd been ordered to pay child support.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice records show Lewis worked at the Hutchins Unit in Dallas. His employment status was pending amid the investigation.
