Superhero and anime fans are in for an epic weekend as the annual San Angelo Comic Convention returns October 12-14th at the Foster Communications Coliseum, this time with plenty of action, activities, and celebrity guests.

Headlining this year’s 3-day show are voice actors Alexis Tipton and Kara Edwards who play popular characters from the #1 and #2 animated shows in the world, My Hero Academy and Dragonball Super. Fans of their work will get the chance to meet Alexis and Kara, grab an autograph or photo, and ask them questions about their roles in the voice acting industry during their celebrity panels.

Shoppers looking for those hard-to-find comics and merch will be able to browse over 100 different booths featuring art, plushies, toys, figurines, video games, costumes, and collectibles.

This year also brings in a new director, Josh Wilson, who has helmed many of West Texas’ other comic shows. “We’re really excited to head down to the Concho Valley and bring another awesome weekend of fun. We have a really good idea of what folks out here in West Texas want to see and we are working hard to make sure everyone has a blast.”

While meeting celebrities and shopping are high on the list of many comic convention attendees, Wilson adds that gaming, panels, concerts, and after-hours events are also major hits. “What do you do all weekend after you’ve met the celebrities and bought everyone something from our exhibitors and artists? That’s where programming comes in.” Wilson says fans can take pictures with guest cosplayers, sit in on discussions about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, learn how comic books were turned into billion dollar movie franchises, catch a concert or performance,or watch the local Roller Derby matches. He adds that gaming will be a major feature this year, saying, “Gamers have to bring the squad and compete in card and video game tournaments, and hang out with other con-goers at our after parties when the Foster Coliseum closes. We’ll make sure that you have something to do all weekend long and that you’ll have a great time.”

Doors open Friday night for VIP’s with exclusive access to celebrity guests, vendors, and programming. Wilson says to truly experience the best of the show, VIP tickets are the way to go. “VIPs are treated like royalty all weekend. They can bring 2 guests with them on Friday night, get to skip the lines to meet celebrities, they get a unique VIP badge, front row seating on all panels and programs, an exclusive t-shirt, free entry to after-party events, hear about additional celebrity announcements early, get an exclusive numbered art piece, first shot at limited photo ops, and can bring along a kid under 8 all weekend.”

Two-Day passes for Saturday and Sunday are available along with single day passes for Saturday and Sunday. One child 8 and under gets in free with a paid adult, and kids 8 to 12 years old are eligible for a kids’ weekend pass.
