Let's face it.  We all do it.  Sometimes, we crave a quick pizza, so we go to the nearest Little Caesar's, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, or pick-up an already made pizza from the deli at Walmart.  Sometimes, though, what you really want, those places are not equipped to deliver.  You want a hand tossed pizza made from your local pizza parlor.  You want a pizza that is a unique creation.  Even though they can't legally say it, you want a pizza made with "love".

When that feeling strikes, you are in luck here in San Angelo.  There are a number of great local pizza shops willing to create a pie that will rival any deep dish from Chicago or thin crust from Sicily itself.

Here are some of the best rated pizza shops in San Angelo, based on reviews and internet surveys. These restaurants are not listed in any particular order.

1) Joe's Italian Restaurant 1601 S. Bryant Boulevard, San Angelo

Whether it's Trip Advisor, Google Reviews or wherever you look, GOOD pizza is served at Joe's Italian Restaurant.  The restaurant gets good reviews and travelers through our area say they look forward to stopping again and again.  The ingredients you want the way you want it.  Like a great work of art, every Joe's pizza is a one-of-a-kind experience.

2) Trophy's Pizza 4325 Southwest Boulevard San Angelo

You won't find better reviews for a restaurant anywhere.  People who eat at Trophy's Pizza rave about it. It shows up on all the lists of the "Best Pizzas" in San Angelo. One reviewer says her daughter lives in Chicago and loves the deep dish pizza they have there.  She claims the Trophy's Pizza deep dish is on that level.  With toppings that cover the gamut including, pepperoni, ham, Canadian Bacon, Beef, Sausage, Meatball, Bacon, Grilled Chicken, mushrooms among countless others,  They also offer deep dish, hand tossed and thin crust.  With all the choices, Trophy's can customize whatever pizza you're craving.

3) Lily's Pizza 2424 Vanderventer Ave. San Angelo

Lily's Pizza is great pizza at an affordable price in a casual atmosphere.  It is close to the ASU planetarium and gets incredible reviews for it's pizza and average reviews for service.

4) Cork & Pig Tavern 1407 Knickerbocker Rd. San Angelo

This is the level you reach when you have two superstar chefs, one with a family tradition of creating successful fine dining restaurants, who get together to create a whole different level of gourmet perfection.  Everything about the pizza at Cork and Pig Tavern, like all their other menu choices, will leave you with the feeling that you've had the best.  Their wood fired pizzas testify to why wood fired ovens deliver a level of flavor that no other baking method can. Do not miss this opportunity the next time you want to venture far from ordinary.

5) DoubleDave's Pizzaworks 3536 Knickerbocker Rd. San Angelo

I couldn't help but drool when I read the description for their "Pizza of the Month" for this month.  As described on their website: "Hand-tossed Original Crust with fiery red pepper sauce, meatballs, mozzarella, and shredded parmesan."  If that is just one month, what a year you're in for at DoubleDave's Pizzaworks. They have a pizza buffett that isn't bad. Let's face it most pizza buffets are bad.  There's is not.

6) Stango's Coffee Shop 221 S. Chadbourne St. San Angelo

Ok, let's get past the name.  It IS a coffee shop, but they happen to have memorable pizza. In fact, their official name on Facebook is Stango's Pizza And Coffee and Lifestyles Retail Store.  The reviews mention great flavors and exceptional food and coffee.  They also mention superior service.  This seems like a great place to enjoy an out-of-the-ordinary pizza experience and then wash it down with a delicious dessert with coffee.
