SPRING, Texas (AP) — A 16-year-old boy has been airlifted from a high school in suburban Houston with stab wounds suffered in an altercation at the campus.
The fight involved multiple students Wednesday inside Spring High School, about 20 miles north of Houston. Parent Lakesia Brent says her son, a sophomore at the school, told her students were seen bleeding and at least one was seen on a gurney with blood-soaked clothing.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says it responded about 7 a.m. to the school to a report of a stabbing.

A dispatcher for the air ambulance at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston confirmed the 16-year-old was transported shortly before 8 a.m.

The school was under lockdown but parents have been told that students will be released to their care Wednesday morning.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — An Austin-area attorney has been hired as superintendent of a West Texas school district recovering from a testing scandal that sent an educator to prison.

The El Paso Independent School District board of managers on Tuesday approved a contract with Juan Eduardo Cabrera Jr. He formerly was chief legal adviser and an executive cabinet member at the Eanes (EEN'-es) Independent School District with a base salary of $182,000.

The El Paso Times (http://bit.ly/1a6cH0I ) reports Cabrera, who was the lone finalist, starts next week. His salary in El Paso wasn't immediately released pending his signature on the deal.

The El Paso district hasn't had a permanent superintendent since Lorenzo Garcia was suspended in late 2011 and pleaded guilty to fraud. Garcia was sentenced to more than three years in federal prison.
