Patrick Mahomes was an above-average quarterback at Texas Tech. He led one of the most dynamic offenses to ever come through Lubbock in 2015, scoring 45 points per game with DeAndre Washington and Jakeem Grant as the supporting cast. Mahomes parlayed his stats and potential into a top 10 NFL Draft pick before sitting out his rookie year behind an experienced quarterback in Alex Smith.

In 2018, Mahomes' first year as the full-time starter in the NFL, he won the league's MVP trophy and took his team to the AFC Championship game, something he's done every year as QB1. In 2019, he took his team to the Super Bowl and won Super Bowl MVP. In 2020, he went back to the Super Bowl, winning a second straight AFC Title game. In 2021, he and the Chiefs played in a fourth consecutive AFC Championship game.

That's all in Mahomes' first five NFL seasons, with only four of those as a starter. That team success doesn't even count the many records and accomplishments he's garnered individually as a quarterback.

Off the field, Mahomes has gotten engaged to and married his high school sweetheart and had a daughter, and is now expecting a son. He's part owner of the Kansas City Royals. He signed the richest contract in all of sports at the time of signing. He's got brand ambassador deals with Adidas, Oakley, Coors Light, Essentia, Head and Shoulders, and many more. He's been on the cover of two separate Madden games.

And now, he's a playable character in Fortnite.

That last thing was announced just one day after Mahomes was told he would be inducted into the Texas Tech Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame.

Mahomes joins the video game with dual-wielding axes and is dressed as a gladiator, with his Patrick Mahomes Adidas Logo across his chest. I don't play Fortnite, but I guarantee you my nephew will be begging anyone who will listen for the Mahomes skin so he can play as the Kansas City Chiefs superstar.

Texas Tech Will Go 5-7 if the FPI is Correct

The ESPN FPI, or the Football Power Index, is a mathematical formula like they have in any other league. It claims to, "measure a team's true strength on net points scale; expected point margin vs average opponent on a neutral field." according to ESPN. The projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using the FPI as a model. The preseason projections are incomplete because a large piece of the puzzle is results that have already happened, impacting the remaining schedule. So, based on half the puzzle, Texas Tech is projected to get wins in five of their games. These projections change daily once the season starts, but it's good to get a baseline on what is analytically expected of you heading into the season.
