PRESIDIO, Texas (AP) — A man sought following a 1993 slaying in California has been captured at a West Texas border crossing after apparently living in Mexico for years.

Presidio County jail records show 53-year-old Jose Angel Barraza Gomez was being held without bond Wednesday pending extradition to Los Angeles County.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Presidio on Monday arrested the Mexican national in connection with a killing in El Monte, California. Officials say the suspect tried to renew some U.S. immigration documents that expired 14 years ago, leading to information that he was wanted.

Authorities didn't immediately provide additional details on the slaying or specifics on the warrant leading to the arrest.

Texas jail records don't list an attorney for the suspect, who apparently had been living in Camargo, Mexico.
