The J.M. Smucker Company has announced a voluntary limited recall on certain lots of  9Lives, EverPet and Special Kitty canned cat food. The recall was issued after a quality assurance team at Smuckers, while reviewing production records at a facility, discovered that those lots contain possible low levels of thiamine also known as Vitamin B 1.

Cats, which are fed diets low in thiamine for long periods of time can be at risk for developing a Vitamin B 1 deficiency, resulting in gastrointestinal or neurological symptoms along with decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss.

The good news, so far no animals have become sick as a result of the issues.

Smuckers reports the affected products were sold in stores between 12-20-2016 and 1-3-2017.

To see if your cat's food is listed in the recall check the FDA's website.

No other J.M. Smucker Company products are affected by the recall.

A quick check with Petsmart and Petco stores here in San Angelo, show that they do not carry any of the recalled canned cat food.
