It’s Just About Swimming Season…Where the Cool Spots around San Angelo

Even though the weather has been cool the last few days, there's no doubt swimming season is here.

Brown's Pool in San Angelo is set to re-open on weekends this coming weekend. The popular dipping spot is at 5301 Fruitland Farm Road and it is a popular swimming destination for the area.

So where are the most popular swimming spots in our area.  Here is a rundown of some of the most popular ones.

Love Municipal Pool: 18 E. Ave. A Near Oakes St. San Angelo

This popular swimming destination is scheduled to re-open May 27th.  That is a bit in limbo, however. Apparently, the pool's filtering system needs to be replaced. The timing of the repairs will depend upon if the company that makes the filtration system has the needed parts in stock, or it will have to be ordered.  We'll keep our fingers crossed, because the heat waits for no one, even pool repair companies. Normally, The pool is open for general swimming from noon til 6p and lap swimming Tuesdays through Fridays during the summer.

Mary E Lee Park 2160 Mary E Lee Rd. San Angelo

This beautiful beach on Lake Nasworthy is a popular spot for swimming.  Best of all there are no filtration systems to stop working.  There is also a boat dock, ramp, playground and picnic area and plenty of sandy beaches.   Who needs Padre Island?

Ballinger City Park Pool Off Crosson Avenue and City Park Ballinger

Without a doubt this is one of the biggest municipal pools in the area.  It is re-opening on May 9th, and despite some maintenance issues last summer, the pool should be up and ready to satisfy hot area residents when the mercury hits the typical West Texas summer heights.

E.V. Spence Reservoir 2 miles West of Robert Lee

There's a lot more beach area at E.V. Spence Reservoir this year than usual.  The lake capacity is only about 25%  If the rains come, this popular swimming spot will be buzzing with swimming activity. The lake, created by the damming of the Colorado River by the Robert Lee Dam in 1969, provides recreation activities including swimming.

The Beach at Lake Brownwood State Park 200 State Hwy Park Rd. 15 Brownwood

This inviting swimming spot is 35 mintues north of Brownwood.  The park has a designated swim area, picnic tables and grills.  It is a popular spot to float on a hot summer day and well worth the drive.
