The San Angelo Railway Museum is Celebrating their 25th Anniversary with an original play “Arthur Stilwell’s Dream of Steam” Sept. 8th – 11th.

Raise a Toast to our Railway Museum’s 25th Anniversary with the true tale of how San Angelo got its depot. Step back into history and see “Arthur Stilwell’s Dream of Steam” come to life with live performances at the Railway Museum.

Arthur Stilwell had a dream and imagined a mighty railroad running through San Angelo and into Mexico. It was over 100 years ago that Stilwell built 2,300 miles of railroad, founded 40 cities, and added $1 billion to the US economy. He was a visionary who picked San Angelo for the main Texas depot of his dream.

The performance will tell the true tale of the man who put San Angelo on the map. You’ll be transported through time with this original play and meet Pancho Villa, who played a BIG part in the story of San Angelo's Railroad Depot.

The actors for “Arthur Stilwell’s Dream of Steam” are all local and will be dressed in the styles of 1910, when the depot came to San Angelo. This is the 21st historical production written and directed by Linda Thorsen Bond who won two national Telly awards for the 2018 PBS production on her play for a museum in Colorado. Her historical novel “Saving the Oldest Town in Texas” was a finalist for the 2019 International Book Awards. Bruce McLaren, who uses his expertise as an ex-librarian, has been instrumental in the research on the incredible true Stilwell story.

You’re invited to enjoy performances running Sept. 8th-11th. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are from 7-9 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. There is also a Sunday matinee.

Tickets are $25 and include champagne and hors d’oeuvres, 1910 style! Bring a group of 8 or more friends and your tickets are $20 per person and includes drinks and treats plus the new Stilwell exhibit which is also opening on Sept 8th at the Railway Museum! For tickets go to sanangelorailway.org or call 325-486-2140. The Railway Museum of San Angelo is located at 703 S. Chadbourne.
