Texas Legislature’s Last Day of Special Session

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas Legislature is coming back for the last day of the special session to try to pass a key transportation measure.
Both the Senate and House need a two-thirds support on Tuesday for a constitutional amendment that would divert money away from the state's Rainy Day Fund. The measure would free up at least $840 million a year for Texas roads. Experts say the state needs $4 billion in additional spending to maintain the current network.

Lawmakers have been trying to hammer out a deal for weeks on what Gov. Rick Perry has named a top priority. But conservatives are angry it will not set a minimum balance for the Rainy Day Fund.

Perry has promised to call a third special session if the measure does not pass.
