HOUSTON (AP) — Police say DNA evidence has led to an arrest in the 1984 killing of two sisters in Houston.

Harris County jail records show 57-year-old Edmond Beauregard Degan was being held Friday on a capital murder charge. Online records don't list an attorney for Degan, who's held without bond.

A relative discovered the bodies of 33-year-old Yleen Kennedy and 23-year-old Lillie Kennedy. The older sister was beaten, stabbed, shot and sexually assaulted. Lillie Kennedy was shot. Their home was ransacked with property missing.

Houston cold case officers in 2009 developed a DNA profile in the case.

Degan has convictions for aggravated robbery, assault, making a terrorist threat and drug possession.

Investigators in late 2014 received a tip that Degan could be a suspect. His DNA was tested. He was arrested Wednesday.
